Hi Sherry! I was talking about two things. My goal for student blogging is to have them interact. I think this activity on a blog would lead to interaction whereas just writing a reflection doesn't tend to inspire student interaction.

Hey Leigh!
Great lesson plan... another one to try out. I really like the way you use discovery with grammar. I think application comes from continual usage & exposure. My students (SpIII) know they have to make adjectives agree with nouns, but will still not apply that grammar point consistently.
You said "I do plan on having them post their reflections to this activity, but again I run into the problem of having them interact with eachother. Any suggestions?" I'm not sure I understand your problem of having them interact with each other. Do you mean one group with another? You don't want one group to restate what another one said? I'll check back to clarify :)

Thanks for your response. I would like to see samples of your student blogs. I like the comment feature as well, and the ownership is huge. At our PLP presentations one school http://tinyurl.com/o8bkd8 committed to creating a blog that will stay with the student from elementary school to HS. Check out at the bottom of the page "Blog to be Wild". I thought this was a wonderful way to share growth. Can you imagine having a digital and public record of growth like that?

[...] Oral Assessment is especially important in a class that stresses oral communication. The problem is assessing all students and doing it in a way that doesn’t. See more here: Oral Assessment | Señorita Murrell [...]

Hola Sherry!
I like the blog for writing. I like the comment feature that a blog has over the wiki page. I think mostly it is just personal preference. My students have their own wiki page to put things on, and now they have their own blog. I am going to have them put links between the two so they are both easily accessible. Last year they were all authors on my blog and it became tedious to search out and find each of their posts (it required them to use tags correctly which was a challenge for some of them). There is a lot less control with the individual blogs, but since they all have experience I think this is a logical step. I asked them what they wanted and they unanimously chose to have their own blog. I think the ownership piece makes it more exciting and I am hoping for some good blogging. I will be sure to share some links soon.

Hola Leigh!
Quick question: What would be the advantage to each kid setting up their own blog compared to each kid having their own page on our class wiki? Looking ahead to next year... I'm going to check their work out here in the next couple of days.
